Nottingham-Trent University Concept Project
Summer 2016
Nottingham-Trent University approached us with a concept brief where they wanted a small, engaging guide to tell students about the city of Nottingham before they join the campus. In recent years Nottingham has been radically redeveloped and has expanded into a real hub for young people, with a strong art, theatre, and music scene, as well as contemporary night-life. Nottingham is also rich in cultural heritage and history, and it is home to the infamous Robin Hood, whose statue stands proudly with the town. Our city-guide would have to try and pack all of what Nottingham has to offer, whist still being engaging to the young reader.
The ‘Boom’ effect represents the city’s recent growth in culture and creativity, and with the explosion-fold technique in place, it really gives the reader a taste of Nottingham’s culture.
Below you can see my experiment with the explosion fold. To mimic this we made the design truly vibrant, featuring elements related to the city and surrounding area, exploding out at the reader.
